everyone is obsessed with moleskines because as a nation there’s a shortage of good notebooks. I’ve seen gorgeous, high quality, and often, cheaper notebook in Asia and online. It’s hard to really do research on a notebook when you don’t know what you’re look for, and have no knowledge of its existence. That’s how I feel about make up usually, but I’m obsessed with stationary. As a lot of people are.
Yesterday, I was flipping through an old issue of Creative Review at work and with a subscription to the magazine, you’ll receive a MAGMA sketchbook. The stationary brand also stocks cool and interesting knick knacks alongside design books, graphic zines, posters and something they called weird stuffs. Sadly, it’s not that weird.
But back to the notebooks!
They have designed notebooks for different disciplines, available on their website right now are: DESIGN & ART DIRECTION, FASHION, ART and ILLUSTRATION and coming soon is IDEA GENERATION.
The notebooks not only have pages for writing on, there are also rulers, basic kerning and type design, illustration foundations, inspirational quotes (but not in a lame way) and GET THIS, MULTIPLE RIBBONS!
I’m pretty excited to extend my notebook repertoire beyond moleskines. Cause, honestly, they’re kinda expensive and not that great. I always buy the largest plain moleskine and the paper is too thin for thick ink and sharpie. I write in sharpie to feel grand, and when ideas are limited, each idea should feel as grand as possible, so maybe, I’ll gain a bit of confidence back.
I’m pretty stoked for the idea generation one. From the looks of it, it’s pretty amazing. But it’s not available yet, JUST LIKE how the new murakami book is STILL not out. It’s been literally a jillion years since it came out in Japan. The English translation is always the slowest..booooo
This album I like very much: Tourist History —> Two Door Cinema Club
Do you want it all?
This website I like very much: Thought Catalog
There are so many things that I want to write about, and this entry is going to take 2 hours to complete because i’ll have to look for accompany media and graphics. But it’ll be worth it.
But first of all, be grateful that WITHS2 has subbed the entire season and you didn’t have to wait like I did and get lost because I wasn’t sure what episode I was on… SO, here are the SUBS and here are the RAWS (you have to register for this forum but it’s easy)
Reasons why I prefer the Korean version over the US version (i’ve always heard excellent things about the Australia version as well) …
I like the judges in the Korean version, everyone is nice and respectful, I’m thinking that the American judges are bored and are starting to run out of things to say, I mean, Michael Kors is seriously a grade A asshole, if you don’t know what I mean, you can watch Season7, Episode 10.
Thinking back on that episode gave me bad feelings, and all the good things that I wanted to write about season 2 of Korean version has dissipated a little bit, but thats ok, i’ll soldier on.
I have this very romanticized vision of what a fashion designer should be like, and the finalists for this season all had that quality and it made me so happy when I was watching them work. In my completely imagined scenarios, I want my designers to be shy, soft-spoken, emotional, lost, confused, and very much in their own world. I really dislike gaudy people, yes that means I dislike myself, and I really work hard to be a quiet, soft-spoken person in real life, it doesn’t work that well but I try really hard.
All three finalists (3 ? because they are all amazing and epic) were soft spoken, slightly shy, and all had this princely / princessly aura that it felt like they were all floating. I loved the fact that every single one of them encouraged each other on. When they first saw each other’s final collections, they literally all exclaimed how boring their own is, so cute dammit, modesty, how impressive it could be.
Their collections were, in my opinion, incomplete, but more adventurous and courageous than some of the American designers. There were so many looks that I saw that I fell instantly in love with.
Ah I cried so much near the end, even though I haven’t watched this in so long, I couldn’t marathon it, I only watch it when I remember about it because the subs come out very slowly (but I’m still very appreciative!) and I am really looking forward to season 3.
So the reasons that I cried so much, ah how embarrassing, is that for one thing, the designers kept crying. And I cried with them, but also because they talked about how they finally see their hard work come to fruition, this excitement but trembling fear. And I was thinking about how, I’ve never ever felt that before. I have never worked so hard that I think that it’s the best that I can do, I’ve never put my all in anything and that’s incredibly disappointing to me, so I guess I am saying that they gave me a lot of inspiration.
One of the guest judges said this to one of the designers during the final judging:
“I think you need to break from the pressures of being too creative.”
A light bulb went off in my head when she said that. YES! New people in the creative realm, whatever it may be, always tries too hard, they are always attempting the next new thing, or too afraid of what people will think of them and end up not being courageous enough, it’s extremely hard to find a good balance of being yourself in that you express what you want without it feeling like it was too much of what you can be, because I think a lot of people have a hard time finding that balance, myself especially.
okay, i think I said all that I wanted to say…
I had originally wanted to show u my favorite looks from each collection but I can’t find corresponding english sites with images so.. instead I’ve provided embeds of all three final collections after the cut, ummm if you’re planning to watch the show then don’t watch it, but what can I say? The first one was my favorite, especially the first look, gah want to wear it now.
edit: I don’t think anyone is subbing season 3 …NOOOOOOO!
The Desktop Wallpaper Project from The Fox is Black has become my go to place for new desktop wallpapers, but it also come in iPad and iPhone (iPhone4) sizes
