touchpad fiasco

everyone on the interwebz went nuts for the HP touchpad! why? BECAUSE IT WAS $99! (for the 16gb) and $149 (for the 32 gb).

my local futureshop and best buy had it the earliest but im not that savvy of a shopper even though i saw the engadget article minutes after it came out, by the time i got to the stores obv they were sold out. i wasn’t that miffed about it because i can never get good deals.

The next day i found out that ONSALE (via Amazon, reseller) were carrying them at discounted prices! So, even with my 10 minute hesitation, i was able to snatch up one for a really amazing $99.

Ive never had problems with Amazon and everyone knows this because i order a lot of stuff there. Whether books, electronics, or hair product. But i’ve had pretty good serviced with amazon. And pretty much everyone from my house orders books there.

And they kept rubbing that damned kindle in my face every time i logged in. I was pretty close to buying one, but now I don’t feel like it…

anyways, so my order got cancelled 4 days after the fact even though it was in “shipping soon” stage the whole time.

I wasn’t that upset because these things do happen, if the orders rush the server it might oversell but honestly i don’t think that was the issue.

Here comes the crowd mentality. i was pretty surprised to see my order wiped from my history, completely. i did not get a cancellation email simply because amazon emails my dad (he pays for everything ha!) and i still dont know if he got an official email or not. but i informed him and asked him to keep a check on his credit card.

anyways, so i went over to the tablet pages and since the thousands of people that weren’t able to get one were really pissed and started leaving negative reviews about the tablet on their amazon page. The numbers were apparently that they had an inventory of 10000 but oversold to 100000 people. So 90k people were out of a tablet! that’s not just a minor computer error. The thing was live for 2 hours after i ordered so…

the thing that was really making everyone mad was because they shipped tablets to people that order after, because due to computer error or not, so it wasn’t really first come first serve. they also do have supply left but are now shelling it out at a higher price, 3 x higher approximately. The price drop was initiated by HP so it wasn’t just a sale, it was a discontinuation of the product hence the low price.

I never got one, and the HP website said they were gonna have some but when i came back from work today it sold out as well, i just emailed them but i dont think it’ll be helpful. anyways…

Crowd mentality really really played a big factor here. i wasn’t that mad but then i was because everyone was mad. But im not that type of person that can ever get DEALS! EVER! I always end up paying more, sometimes i get to buy things at lower prices but its rare that happens.

maybe HP will see this post and send me one! SEND ME ONE! <3 i love webOS! <3 <3

Also a word of warning to those that might encounter OnSale in the future. I never dealt with their customer service but apparently many people were hung up and simply disconnected. as long as my dad’s credit card wont be charge i won’t be heckling them about it. But the least of all I could do is make a rant on my blog.

now i only want it because i can’t get it!! damn this =_=

Defacing public property

currently in nanjing (南京 ) in my familys newly renovated and smells like paint and new furniture apartment, in which im pretty heavily allergic to, but it’s getting better i think….

i just came from beijing last night and was in hong kong the night before. i have a lot of pictures to post! but alas i dont know where to start….

so here are some random and exciting (not to mention extremely recently) pictures.

didnt get a chance to deface too many public properties, but this was on the airport express from beijing international airport… will probably be ripped off the next day.

i wish i could debunk the impression that china is dirty, unfortunately it’s true, but it’s just mud, mud is good…. Beijing was pretty clean, and Hong Kong was crowded but not that dirty. But this is the state of my shoes after getting breakfast, since it poured like mad last night, there’s mud everywhere now. loook at my converseeeee….

probably the only large purchase i made in hong kong..

and yeah, of course, it’s me.

here are some things that have been keeping me sane….: Season 1 of Community on my ipod, my camera, my pop music playlist filled with Beyonce and Lady Gaga, coca-cola and this random Chinese channel that just loops Korean dramas all day long.

hopefully there will be a lot of new posts coming your way! hopefully..

p.s. it’s true, twitter doesnt work in china, NOR does VIMEO! Which i don’t understand, China definitely needs more good design

fixing this beast of a machine

my laptop has gone through a lot, this is its 3rd year of use. been a bit absent because i was busy reinstalling everything.

i also received my new camera in the mail, as well as a 1TB external harddrive. I’ll only feel safe formatting and reinstalling if i backed up all my musicc and moviesss!

This is my first external hard drive so i hope nothing too bad will happen…

This camera on the other hand, is for my mom but im gonna figure everything out before i hand it over to her. it’s very very light and compact, 12.1 megapixels with enough options. It’s only about $100 and in my opinion, one of the better designed compact economical cameras out there…!

will review it when the time comes.

Good bye to a friend i’ve never met

So, the nexus one, it’s completely sold out, it will never be available for sale directly through google again.

(but then again, never say never, especially when it’s a ‘business decision’)

So what happened was, I was waiting for an OK to charge my dad’s credit card, since we live in Canada, it’s a lot easier to charge a US credit card. So I got an OK the night before but I decided to buy it the next day. In the morning, I had a meeting, so after my meeting, I came home, scrolled through engadget, and it’s sold out.

My friend has this phone, and she was really excited for me to get it too. I’ve disappointed her too!

edit: i hope your future descendant: the HTC 1 will get made

things that i’ve been doing lately since my job decides they don’t need me anymore

- staying up until very ridiculous hours to live-stream korean pop shows that features Super Junior
- playing tetris with random strangers via wifi on my DS, getting my ass kicked continuously while at other times beating them without getting a sweat
- reading books, currently reading Linchpin, i looked up the word on wikipedia, i still don’t see how it’s a metaphor for the book
- Linchpin is a self help book for jump starting your career, it feels like a “don’t kill yourself just cause your job sucks” kind of self help book.
- Going out a lot because my room is too hot, though it’s significantly cooler today
- i got another hypersim (see above for pics) for my JPN softbank phone, this isn’t even a really good phone but i feel the need to conquer technology, softbank 2 emma 0.1 (i got the phone to work for a day)
-looking into buying a new phone, the running contenders are: iphone 4, nexus ONE, the nexus one is leading by a long shot
- i got a free vuvuzela from the lottery commissions, because the jackpot is really big and they want to get the message out there
- i’m going to use it during sunday’s game
- it’s pretty obvious which country i’m cheering for right?
- i’m on tumblr the rest of the time, without sleep of course

i thought i’d put up a nice, how to buy a good pair of headphones, post. because, i am nice, and i have nothing else to do. so im looking for stuff to photograph in my room. going outside is overrated. oh, i got my hair cut today, but i wont post the before and after, because i dont want you to hate me.
