Norwegian Wood Screencaps

the movie (dvd rip?) is out, no subtitles yet, time will change that
i skimmed through it
and as the reviews that i’ve read, vintagey feel.
the only problem i have with the movie is how young kiko mizuhara is (midori) when compared to the rest of the actors. She’s the age of midori, 20-ish, while everyone else is pushing late 20s at least. I have no problem with casting an older actor as a younger character, the discrepancy between the age of the actor and the character is too large and it clearly shows when they are with midori. There are no capable young actors?

It’s still pretty, looks a bit slow though. will wait for full subs.

Love Conquers All?

I knew about the movie Tokyo! a long time ago but I never got around to watching it until now!

It’s consisted of three short films by Michael Gondry (hence my tweet about the chair girl), Jong-hoo Bong, and Leos Carax. I only saw the first and last components, Interior Design and Shaking Tokyo, I didn’t see Merde, I read some of the reviews and it felt like something that would give me nightmares, so I skipped it.

which leads me to the inappropriately sweet song by a Korean group called Sweet Sorrow, the song is titled You. I wonder if the song is the lead for the movie since the director of Shaking Tokyo is Korean. But it seems out of place because the film had such a subtle tune to it while the song is so upbeat (perhaps it has haunting lyrics since I don’t know what it’s saying) but I really love this group and the short film was great, Aoi Yu was adorable in it as always. I say Love Conqueors all because..well (spoilers) he, a Hikikomori goes outside, in search of her, only to find out that everyone has become a Hikikomori.

The short film is pretty much summed up in this sweet song, seriously. All the important scenes are in it.

Which leads me to the film Castaway on the Moon which I saw at the Vancouver International Film Festival starring the irresistible Jung Ryu Won. It’s one of the funniest films I’ve ever seen, and also one of the saddest and the most courageous. And in this case, Love conquers all applies too. She’s a Hikikomori too.

here’s a funny cut from the movie.

I am fairly sure you can find it online somewhere, it should be stream-able SOMEWHERE, not too obscure since the actress is so mainstream. Look for it if you get a chance to watch it.

Cazals – We’re Just the same
(this song got 154 plays from my itunes in the past 1.5 days craaaZy)

One thing I’ve come to realize after all these years of living, is that, the one thing you shouldn’t be doing is comparing yourself to others. It’s the most tiring thing in the world and is the basis of all anxiety and insecurity. If you could just go on living as yourself, doing the best that you can given your own circumstances, you would reach farther than if you were in competition with someone else (maybe). In contrast if you were to be constantly thinking about what others have or are doing, it’d be a hellishly tiring way to live..

That being said, I’ve been having a hard time lately because I am seeing how other people are doing and I am looking down at myself, repeatedly, every single day. It’s not a great feeling, and it sinks deeper and deeper into your heart because I can’t tear my mind away from the word forever, is this forever? And I ask myself that every single day. But right now, I feel unusually reassured and from the least likely of sources.

Narcissism, it’s fucking useful sometimes.
